5p for a plastic bag? Should we be supporting the charge?
Building up our store of sturdy reusable bags (which cost a lot more than 5p) and remembering to take them shopping with us?
Charges for disposable carrier bags became law in England this week. For me anything that encourages recycling and slows the build-up of plastic waste in our rivers and seas, our forests and streets has got to be a good thing.
It’s a spiritual question too: How much of our life is ego driven, how much is lived in harmony with the planet?
So re-usable bags have long been a practice of mine. Though I read recently that plastic bags themselves have a lower carbon count than other bags, especially if they’re recycled, than paper or cotton bags. This article gives us food for thought – bagless and free!
